Entitled

This massive groove-packed, 2-cd, live release features Upper Crust playing selections from their previously studio-recorded albums for a Boston area audience. It must be quite a sight to see them live with their powdered wigs, white makeup, buckled shoes and breeches, wielding flying V guitars and making the devil's musick. Like the privileged gentlemen that they are, these folks manage to make a loud, rumbling rock and roll noise that is sure to please. At times it almost felt as if I were listening to out-takes from some long lost AC/DC recording as the guitar riffs sound as if they could have been made by Angus Young himself, and the vocals sound eerily like vintage AC/DC as well. It's also somewhat reminiscent of the swagger that the New York Dolls once were capable of producing, as if it were somewhere between 70's glam and 80's heavy metal, but with just the right amount of punk attitude. Then there's times that I can hear a certain Kiss riff in the mix, or the pounding rhythms of MC5, The Stooges, and the Dead Boys. I am also pleased with the recording quality of this disc as most live recordings sound flat and somewhat lifeless and this offering sounds like a fun show was had by all involved. Don't wait until their coach drives into your town. Get this disc now and you, too, can experience the Upper Crust doing what they do best; rocking out.
